1844 Norfleet "Suffolk in Virginia": The Christian Sun, official organ of the Southern Christian Convention, was establish in 1844 in North Carolina & transferred to Suffolk wher it was printed in a small building in "Galile" (sic) under the editorship of Rev. William Brock Wellons. Sometime after May 6 1862 a few days following the surrender of Suffolk to Union Troops, the paper was moved from Suffolk to Petersburg. After the Civil War, publication was resumed for a while in Suffolk. Grey’s map of 1877 identifies the location of the "Office of the Christian Sun" on the north side of Washington Street opposite Wellons St."
