Whereas William Starke & Benjamin Perry have begun and nearly finished a Mill upon Cataba River which is supposed to be situated upon a tract of Land formerly surveyed by William Harrison but now belongeth to me Thomas Thompson  In order to pay and make ample and sufficient Satisfaction to the above mentioned, William Starke & Benjamin Perry for their trouble and expence on raising the above mentioned Mill  Know all men by these presents that I Thomas Thompson of the District aforesaid Blacksmith for myself my heirs  Executors administrators & assigns have bargained Mortgaged and delivered the above mentioned Mill and Mill Seat with profits arising from the same with five acres of land adjoining the same to William Starke & Benjamin Perry their Heirs Executors administrators & assigns to have and to hold the above Mentioned premises against all persons Whatsoever provided the Rights Which I now have would prove sufficient to hold said Mill shall forever Defend until the following Condition is complied with the condition of the Obligation is such that after the above mentioned William Starke and Benjamin Perry Shall finish the above mentioned Mill which is to be valued by two or three good sufficient judges of Building a Mill on a River Chosen by the bargained persons the said Thomas Thompson his heirs Executors administrators and assigns shall keep and maintain the sd Mill and Mill Seat with five acres of Land adjoining the same in quiet and peaceable possession of the above mentioned William Starke and Benjamin Perry their heirs Executors administrators and assigns for their own use proper use until the valuation before mentioned is paid specie by the said Thomas Thompson his heirs Executors administrators and assigns to William Starke and Benjamin their heirs Executors administrators and assigns then the above Mortgage shall and obligation to be Void or remain in full force and virtue; for the performance of the above obligation I Thomas Thompson do bind myself my heirs Executors administrators and assigns under the penal Sum of five hundred pounds Sterling In witness Whereof I have hereunto Set my hand and Seal the 14th day of may in the year of our Lord (1785) Sealed Signed and delivered
