Fairfield District, SC Deed Book ?, pages 83-84

"This Indenture made on the 10th day of February in the Year of our Lord 1797 between Elizabeth Sorsby of the State of South Carolina and County of Fairfield of the one part and William Kirkland of the State and County aforesaid of the other part Witnesseth that the said Elizabeth Sorsby hath by these presents put placed and bound her son Samuel Sorsby now a Child of five years old to the said William Kirkland and as a Servant with him the said William Kirkland to &amp will From the date of these presents untill the said Samuel Sorsby Shall come to the age of 21:Years or day of marriage during which time the said Samuel Sorsby shall well and faithfully serve his said Master in all work lawful Business as the said Samuel Sorsby shall be put unto by the command of the said William Kirkland according to the power Wit and Ability of him the said Samuel Sorsby, and honestly and obediently in all things that behave? himself towards his said Master and decently and orderly towards the rest of his family -- and the said William Kirkland on his part for himself his executors and administrators doth promise and covenant to and with the said Elizabeth Elizabeth Sorsby that he the said William Kirkland shall teach or cause to be taught the said Samuel Sorsby in all useful Vocation? sootable or necessary in this part of the Country, also shall furnish him during his servitude with good Sufficient Cloathing and board washing &amp lodging also at his freedom shall give to the said Samuel Sorsby one Negro Girl one Good Horse Saddle and Bridle, one good soot of Freedom Cloaths extra of other sufficient Cloathing -- In Witness whereof the said parties have hereunto set their hand and Seals the Day and Year first above written
