"South Carolina Kershaw County

This Indenture made the Second Day of April the of Our Lord One thousad Seven Hundred and Ninty Six and in the Twentieth Year of the Independance of the United States of America Between Stephen Duke of the State and County aforesaid & Mary His Wife, Now those Presence Witnesseth the s'd Stephan Duke Doth Freely give and Grant unto Mary Duke his Wife, as a sepret Mantainance of part of Three Cair Tain Tracts of Land Containing 327 Acres or a part of five Tracts of Land Vis One Hundred and twenty Seven Acres it being a part of One Tract of Land Containin 200 Acres Granted to Thomas Gouther the Day of 17 Situate on the Waters of Beaver Creek and fifty acres of another Tract of Land Granted to James Williams the 20th Day of April 1778 also bein Situate on the Waters of Beaver Creek in the County Aforesaid and also another part of a tract of Land Containin One Hundred Acres of Land it bein apart of A Tract of Land Containin 250 Acres Granted to Alexander Tome on the first Day of October 1768 it is Situate Lying and bein of the S. W. Side of Said Tract of the Acres of and on the Waters of Beaver Creek to have and to Hold the above Mentioned 327 Acres of Land unto the s'd Mary Duke and her Heirs for Ever an absolute and Indefensable Right in fee Simple with all the Apurtainances there unto belonging or in any wise appurtaining there unto the said Mary Duke My Wife and the Heirs of Her body begotten at this time and the s'd Stephen Duke the afore s'd three Hundred & twenty Seven Acres (be the same More or Less) contained in the Boundries of the s'd Plats Doth freely Give and Grant unto the s'd Mary his wife as a sepret Mentainance for Her and her Children & Doth forever Warrant and Defend it unto the s'd Mary his Wife against the Lawfull Claim of any Person or Persons Whatsoever and I also Freely Give unto my Wife three Cows and Calvs & two Yearlands with all my Hogs and Movable Property and I also Give unto my son Joel Duke all My Smithing Toles and Leave them in the Care of Mary My Wife until my Son Joel Comes to Age all this I doth Freely Give and Grant unto Mary My Wife and Children and shall all Ways Suppport and Mentain it against the Lawfull Claims of any person or Persons Whatsoever in Witness Whereof I set my Hand and sail the Day and Year First above Written
