Kershaw County, SC Deed Book K, pages 3-4
"The State of South Carolina.
Know all men these presents that I Thomas Salmonde of Kershaw district in the State aforesaid in consideration of one hundred and six dollars and fifty cents to me paid by Moses Dukes Junior also of Kershaw district in the state aforesaid have granted, bargained sold and released and by these presents do grant bargain sell and release unto the said Moses Dukes all that plantation or tracts of land lying and being in Kershaw district aforsaid on the waters of twentyfive mile Creek on the west side of the said Creek, which was certified for Elizabeth Shinn on the 7th Dec. 1806 and was granted to her for three hundred acres on the fifth of January (1807) eighteen hundred and seven. But which on a resurvey made by John Publis DL a plat of which is hereunto annexed? and certified 21 August 1821 contains only two hundred and thirteen acres. Together with all & singular the rights members hereditaments and appurtenances to the said premises belonging or in any wise incident or appurtaining. To have and to hold all and singular the premises before mentioned unto the said Moses Duke Junr. His heirs and assigns forever and I do hereby bind myself my heirs executors and administrators to warrant and forever defend all and singular the said premises unto the said person Moses Duke Junr. His heirs and assigns against myself & my heirs and against all persons through or under me lawfully claiming or to claim the same or any part thereof. Witness my hand and seal this fourteenth day of November in the year of our lord one thousand eight hundred and twenty-one and in the forty sixth year of the Independence of the United States of America.

Personally appeared before me Thomas P. Evans and made oath the he saw Thomas Salmond Esq. sign seal and deliver the above conveyance for the uses and purposes therein mentioned and that he with James G. Holmes in the presence of each other witnessed the due execution thereof. (signed) Thos. Evans

Evans clerk of the Court of Commonpleas for Kershaw district do hereby Certify unto all whom it may concern that Mrs. Margaret Salmond the wife of the within named Thomas Salmond Esq did this day appear before me and upon being privately and separately examined by me did declare that she does fully voluntary and without any compulsion dread or fear of any person or persons whomsoever renounce release and forever relinquish unto the within named Moses Duke Jr. his heirs and assigns all her interest and estate & also all her rights and claim of dower of ??? to all & singular the premises within mentioned and released.
