"Moses Duke by his Attorney Bartlett S. Duke to David Montgomery. Conveyance.
South Carolina,
District of Kershaw.
Whereas Moses Duke of Mississippi did on the Twelfth day of November 1833 invest me with a Power of Attorney, granting therein to me full power and authority to sell his lands in South Carolina; which said Power of Attorney was regularly proven and recorded in Book No. 3, pages 224, 225, 226 on the 13th of November 1833 in the Probate Office in Lowndes County, Mississippi State. Now in pursuance of said Power of Attorney, Know all men by these presence, that I Bartlett S Duke of Mississippi in consideration of Two hundred and eighteen dollars, to me in hand paid by David Montgomery of Kershaw District, have granted, bargained, sold, and released; and by these presents do grant, bargain, sell, and release, unto the said David Montgommery all that Plantation, or tract of Land containing one hundred forty seven acres, more or less, situate in Kershaw District, between Elias's and Rocky Branches, extending over Rocky Branch to a stake corner near Bear Creek on said Montgomery's land; bounded on the West on said Montgomery's land; North on Peter W. Rush's land, to the east on Moses Duke's land that was granted to Elizabeth Shinn; to the South on John Black and Peter W. Rush's land. The tract intended to be conveyed by this deed is a part of a Tract of 450 acres granted to James Brown, and the same whereon Moses Duke latter resided. Together with all and singular, the rights, members, hereditaments and appurtanences to the said premises belonging or in anywise incident or appurtaining; To Have and to Hold all and singular the premises before mentioned unto the said David Montgomery, his heirs, and assigns forever. And I Bartlett S Duke Attorney for Moses Duke, do hereto bind the said Moses Duke, his heirs, executors, and administrators to warrant and forever defend all and singular the said premises unto the said David Montgomery his heirs, and assigns, against the said Moses Duke, his heirs, and , and assigns, and against every other person, or persons, whomsoever lawfully claiming, or to claim the same or any part thereof. Witness my hand and seal this eighteenth day of December, one thousand eight hundred and thirty three, and the Fifty eight year of American Independence.

Personally appeared before me Peter W. Rush who made Oath that he was present and saw Bartlett S. Duke sign, seal, and as his act and deed deliver the within conveyance for the uses and purposes therein contained, and that he with Martha Mickle in the presence of each other witnessed the due execution thereof. Sworn to before me this 19th day of december. 1833.
