Fairfield District, SC Deed Book X, pages 234-235

"South Carolina Fairfield District
Know all men by these presents that I James Duke of the District & State afore said for and in consideration of the sum of two hundred & fifty dollars to me Paid by Samuel Duke of the District aforesaid.  the receipt where of is hereby Confessed & acknowledged have given granted bargained & released & by these presents do give grant bargain sell & release unto the said Samuel Duke his heirs Executors administrators & assigns all & singular that Tract or parcel of Land Situate Lying in the aforesaid District of Fairfield on Twenty five mile Creek waters the Wateree River originally granted unto Thomas Duke & Conveyed by his heirs unto the said James Duke bearing date the 22nd of February eighteen hundred & fifteen bounded South by Moses Duke Aaron Duke & Samuel Perry East by John Stewart North by Samuel Duke & West by Edward Sims & Moses Duke, & hath such other shape & marks as the original plat represents together with all & singular the rights hereditaments & appurtenances thereunto belonging or in any wise incident unto the said Samuel Duke his heirs Executors administrators & assigns To have and to hold all and Singular the said premises & I do hereby bind myself my Heirs Executors administrators & assigns To warrant & forever defend all the above described premises unto the said Samuel Duke his Heirs & against myself my heirs Executors administrators & assigns In Witness whereof I hereunto Set my hand and Seal this 5th day of February in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred & seventeen & of the Independence of the United states of america the Fortieth --

The State of South Carolina Fairfield District
I Elijah Jones one of the Justice of the quoram do hereby certify unto all whom it may concern that Judith Duke the wife of the within named James Duke this day appeared before me and on being privately and separately examined by me did declare that she does freely and voluntarily and without any compulsion dread or fear of any person or persons whomesoever renounce?  ceace and for Ever relinquish ?unto the within named Samuel Duke his heirs and assigns all her interest & Estate and also all her rights and Claim of dower of in or to all and singular the premises within mentioned and released -- Given under my hand and seal this first day of April Anno Domini thousand Eight hundred and sixteen

Fair field District
Before me appeared John H. Taylor and made oath that he saw the within named James Duke Sign seal and Deliver the within the of Con veyance to Samuel Duke for the ??? purpose therein mentioned and that he saw samuel Wilson sign as a witness with himself sworn to this first day of April ano. 1816

TLC note: I made a search in the Fairfield District, SC deed books for the February 22, 1815 deed conveyance, heirs of ThomasDuke to James Duke.  I was unable to find it.
