"South Carolina
Know all men by these presents that I James D. Craig of the state aforesaid in the District of Fairfield in the consideration of one Thousand dollars to me paid by Sam'l Duke of the place aforesaid have granted bargained Sold and released and by these presents do grant, bargain, sell, & release unto the said Sam' l Duke all & singular that tract or parcel of Land situate in the District aforesaid on the twenty five mile Creek waters of the Wateree River it being a tract originally granted to the said Samuel Duke by paltes? bearing date the 6th of September 1802 & conveyed to the said James D. Craig by deed bearing date the 2d of March 1816 bounding by a line running NE by D. Ward NW by Robert & Aron Dukes SW by Elisha Jones & SE by round Top Branch & James Wilsons lands the above boundaries including Forty acres more or less originally granted to Sam' l Nipper also two other tracts adjoining the same one of which being conveyed unto the said James Craig by Robert Duke & Aron Duke by deed bearing date the 20th day of december 1819 bounded by a line running SE by said Craigs own land all other sides by Jacob, Robert & A. Dukes The other being convey to said Craig by Aaron Duke by the bearing date the 13th day of May 1820 bounded by lands running No W by said Craigs own Lands & SE & SW by Aaron Dukes land the two first containing one hundred seventy nine and half acres the two latter containing nineteen & quarter acres making an aggregate of one hundred eighty eight & three quarter acres Together with all and singular the rights, members hereditaments & appurtenances thereunto longing or in any wise incident or appertaining. To have and to hold all & singular the premises before mentioned unto the said Samuel Duke his heirs and assigns Forever & I do hereby bind myself my heirs, Executors administrators & assigns to warrant & forever defend the said premises unto the said Samuel Dukes & his heirs against myself & my heirs & against all & every other person or persons whomsoever lawfully claiming the same or any part thereof witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand & affixed my Seal the 30th day of March in the Year of our Lord 1822 & in the forty seventh year of the sovereignty and independence of the United States of America
