Lancaster District, SC Deed Book G, pages 15-16
The State of South Carolina
Know all men by these presents that I James Bredin of Lancaster District in the State aforesaid for and in Consideration of the of one thousand Dollars to me me in hand paid by Andrew Mc Elwain of the District and State aforesaid have granted bargained Sold released Conveyed and Confirmed and by these presents the grant bargained Sell Released Conveyed and Confirmed unto the Said Andrew Mc Elwain his heirs & assigns all and Singular that plantation Tract piece or parcel of land Situate in the District of Lancaster aforesaid on the east side of the Catawba River and on both sides of the mouth of Cedar Creek Containing three hundred Eighty nine Acres (more or less) beginning and a Cedar on the River and running from thence N62E38.50 to a post Oak from thence S48E31.50 to a white Oak from thence S40E43 to a post Oak from thence S72W80 to a Willow Oak on the Catawba River and from thence of the Various Courses of Said River to the beginning Bounded North Eastwardly by George Hayes South Eastwardly by James Bredin and Jesse Vanwinkle Southwestwardly by the Catawba Company and on the other side by the Catawba River and had Such Shape form marks buttings and boundaries as a plat Certified By Tho's Archer the 15 of March 1803 as laid off for Patrick Graves and hereunto annexed more fully represents Together with all and singular the rights Members hereditaments and appurtenances to the Said premises belonging or in any wise incident or appertaining to have and to hold the premises before mentioned with their appurtenances unto the Said Andrew Mc Elwain his heirs and assigns for ever and I do hereby for myself my heirs Executors and Administrators Warrant and for ever defend all and Singular the premises before mentioned unto the Said unto the Said Andrew Mc Elwain his heirs and assigns against myself and My heirs and against every person whomsoever lawfully Claiming the Same or any part there of.  In Witness whereof I have unto Set my hand and seal this eighteenth day of July in the year of our lord one thousand eight hundred & six and in the thirty first year of American Independence

Personally appeared Thomas Edwards and after being duly sworn Saith that he was present and Saw James Bredin Sign Seal and as his Act and deed deliver the within instrument of Writing to Andrew Mc Elwain for the purposes therein set forth and that himself and William Mc Elwain Signed their names as Witness thereto at the Same time

Being Called upon to admeasure or lay off to Patrick Graves a tract of Land Containing three hundred Eighty nine Acres the Same being part of three Tracts of land one of which was Granted Robert Duke The Other Two Tracts was Granted to James Bredin Situate on the N. E. Side of the Cataba River in Lancaster District Represented by the above Delineated plat is Completed according to the Return of the Chane Cariers to me? is Certified by me this 16th day of May 1806

TLC Notes: The surveyors notation reads 62 degrees east of north for 38 chains and 50 links, 48 degrees east of south for 31 chains lengths and 50 links, and so on. A surveyors chain is 66 feet long and consists of 100 links. The measurement, 38.50 above is equal to (38.50 chain lengths) X (66 feet/chain length) = 2,541 feet.
