Kershaw District, SC Deed Book D, page 51-52
"This Indenture made the first day
of March in the Year of our Lord one thousand seven hundred and Ninety
Seven and in the twenty first year of American Independence between John
Abbot of the State of South Carolina and the County of Kershaw Planter
of the one Part and Samuel Wells of the State and County Aforesaid Planter
of the other Part Witnesseth that the said John Abbot for and in Consideration
of the Sum of Twenty pounds Sterling good and lawful Money of the State
above mentioned to hin in hand paid the Receipt wherof he doth hereby Acknowledge
to have bargained sold aliened ??? and confirmed and by these Presents
doth bargain sell alien, ???? and confirm unto the sd Samuel Wells and
his Heirs and Assigns forever all that plantation or tract of land containing
one hundred Acres more or less Situate and lying on Sawney Creek it being
part of a 150 Acre Tract granted to John Abbot by his Excellency Thomas
Pinckney Esq Govenor and Commander in Chief in and over the said State
at Charleston the 3 day of March Anno Domini 1783 and part of a fifty Acre
Tract of Land granted to the said John Abbot by his Honorable Wm Bull Esq
Lieutenant Governer and Commander in Chief in ond over the said Province
or State the 31 Day of August Anno donini 1774 beginning at a White Oak
on the Bank of Sawney Creek on the South Side of said Creek just below
John Abbots field where he now lives at the Mouth of the Waggon branch
from thence across said branch and then up to a black oak and so on to
a Post oak Corner and then turn a South East course to a Post Oak and so
straight on to Spanish Oak and then ??? on a Hicorry? between the Waggon
and Beetree branches and so down the Beetree branch to a Post Oak corner
close to Alexander Stewarts House and so up Sawneys Creek to the abovementioned
White Oak on the bank of Sawneys Creek Together with all and singular the
Houses Outhouses Ways Waters Possessions Transfers Easements Hereditaments
and Appurtenances whatsoever to the said Hundred acres more or less thereunto
belonging or in any wise appertaining to the Hereditaments and the Reversion
& Reversions Remainder and Remainders rents issues Profits thereof
and every part and parcel thereof of all the Rights and Titles whatsoever
to the said hundred acres more or less of him the said John Abbot of and
in or to the Same Premises to have and to hold the said Plantation or Tract
of Land and all and singular the other Premises and privileges above mentioned
with Appurtenances unto the said Samuel Wells his heirs and Assigns to
the only proper use and behoof of the said Samuel Wells and his heirs and
Assigns forever And Lastly the said John Abbot and his heirs and Assigns
shall and will warrant and forever defend the lawful, right, and Title
of the aforesaid Tract of Land containing 100 acres more or less with all
the appurtenances unto the said Samuel Wells his heirs and Assigns forever.
In witness whereof the said Parties to these presents have hereunto interchangeably
