"State of South Carolina
Know all men by these presents that I Nathaniel Ford of Fairfield County and State aforesaid for and in Consideration of the Sum of one hundred and thirty pounds Sterling to me to me in hand well and truly paid by Betty Burge at and before the Sealing and delivery of these presents The Receipt whereof the Said Nathaniel Ford doth hereby acknowledge have bargained and Sold and by these presents do bargain sell & deliver unto the Said Betty Burge three Negroes (that is) one Negroe Woman named Tamer, another named Patty and a Boy named James and their Increase -- To have and to hold the said Negroes unto the said Betty Burge her heirs Executors Administrators and Assigns to her and their own proper Use and Behoof forever & The Said Nathaniel Ford my heirs Executors the Said bargained premises unto the Said Betty Burge her heirs Executors & Administrators from and against all persons shall and will Warrant and defend by these presents -- In Witness whereof the Said Nathaniel Ford hath hereuntoSt his hand and Seal this 15th day of October 1798
