Be it Remembered that Charles Lewis Appeared before me and being Sworn on the Holy Evangelist of Almighty God. Saith upon his Oath, that on or about the Tenth ('or Eleventh' was crossed out) Day of June in the Year of our Lord one Thousand Seven Hundred Eighty this deponant being put under Gaurd, by a Coll. Turnbul, And a Captn. Hook and a party of Horse, Compelled me to go on a Scout With Sd. Hook, with a party of Tories from Rocky Mount up The Country, being Disarmed. Saith up on His Oath, that the Day After they Left Rocky Mount they Come To The House of the Revd. John Simpson, whose House was ('they' crossed out, 'was' inserted) Burned, and Property Destroyed, and Caried off by the above Mentioned Party. He further Saith up on his Oath that Burrel Burge And Jeremiah Burge Ware Very Active with the Sd. Party, And at the House of the Sd. Simpson, he Saw them take and Cary off Bedcloths and other Articles out of Sd. Simpson House Sworn And Subscribed before me this 22 of June 1785 (signed) Charles Lewis
