The first Burge in Georgia as far I know was Drury Burge
son of John
Burge and brother of Richard Burge of the Fairfield Dist.
South
Carolina. I have provided his application for a land
grant to the group
He turned down the grant and moved back to Virginia via
South Carolina.
The next Burge in Georgia was a John Burge. He was
listed among
Washington County "Headright and Bounty Grants" 1789-
1793. Fire
destroyed all records in this county in 1855.
John Rains was in Washington County in 1784. His family
was the only
Rains family there.
1788 Rev Michael Burge joined the Methodist Church in
South Carolina. He
was sent to the Catawba Indians in the Waxhaws. He later
moved to
Georgia then to Mississippi.

1794 to 1871 William Burge buried in the Sardis Cemetery
in Cobb County
Georgia. His wife Mary is also buried there
1820-1870. I have a note that John Burge drew land
in Cobb County,
however, I don't have a date.
1796 In Capt. Kirks District, Hancock County, Georgia.
John Burge had
143 acres of pine land, adjacent to Pehitom? on Buffalo
Creek.

1800 - As you know Richard Burge moved from Fairfield
Dist SC to Warren
County Georgia with his widowed mother Francis.
His father in law Jesse
Bird Sr. was already there. There are records that
he obtained land in
Burke County in 1794.

Aug. 18,1804 a John Burge was married to Winnie Thurman
in Warren Co
Georgia. Several other marriages of interest
In 1803 to 1805 are the Heaths,
Parham, Rains, Wynne, Wright, Perry, Peebles, and the
Dunn family. These
families are from Bristol Parish Virginia.
